Puppy Application

Thank for your interest in Dewey Creek Goldens!
We hand-raise all of our puppies in our home with our family, and they are part of our daily life. We love them and we hope you love your puppy, too. This application is to inform and help you determine if a Golden Retriever puppy is a good fit for your family and lifestyle, as well as to ensure us as the breeders that our puppies are going to homes that are prepared and committed to caring for them.
Here are some things we would like you to know in considering a Golden Retriever:
  • Golden Retrievers, like many breeds, need regular exercise, whether it be a walk or jog several times a week, throwing a ball, or a fenced yard to roam and play in freely. They do enjoy and benefit from daily interaction, and love to be with their people!
  • Babies and young children should be supervised with a family dog, no matter how trustworthy the dog is. Spend time showing them how to play appropriately with the dog. This is for the dog’s safety as well as the children’s.
  • Golden Retrievers shed and need regular brushing. They are double-coated, which helps keep them cool in summer, and warm in winter. Do not clip its coat as this can result in an inability to regulate its body temperature.
  • Bringing home a new puppy is SO fun and exciting! Please also remember that owning a puppy is a commitment of approximately 10-14 years, the life of your dog. It is extremely rewarding, but requires time, regular care, exercise, and vet visits.
  • If you rent your home, please confirm that your landlord approves owning a Golden Retriever in that home.
  • Be prepared to spend time teaching your puppy the boundaries of its yard, especially if it’s not fenced.
  • We highly recommend taking your puppy to a puppy training class, whether this is your first puppy or 30th. The time and effort you spend early on in the first 2-6months of your puppy’s life can greatly impact your relationship as you introduce your puppy to your family and home, help avoid frustration by understanding dog behavior and instincts, and bring great joy to the lifelong bond you will have with your new best friend.
  • Our puppies are only sold with “Limited Registration” and contract agreement to spay/neuter your dog between 12-24months of age. This means that your puppy is registered with AKC, however, none of its offspring would be eligible for registration.
